Yesterday, I officially launched my third book “Truths & Contradictions: Life-Changing Experiences in Afghanistan”. Each book I’ve written has been an emotionally transformative experience. And birthing this one into the world has been no different—equal parts vulnerable, exhilarating, and deeply personal.
Writing book—especially one rooted in lived experience—requires emotional grit. As the words take form, doubt often creeps in. Will this resonate? Who exactly am I writing for? Will it reach those who need it most? These questions are familiar companions on the creative journey.
I typically write what I feel called to write. I have a broader mission of building peace and understanding in the world and that is what I screen my writing and other activities through.
In the months leading up to the launch, I spent hours sending out emails, doing podcast interviews, promoting my book on social media, and connecting with supporters who believe in this work. Promoting a book demands stamina, focus, and above all—belief. Belief that your story matters. Belief that your words will make a difference.
With “Truths & Contradictions” I am proud to support a cause that is close to my heart. A portion of the book’s proceeds is being donated to Right to Learn Afghanistan – https://righttolearn.ca/, a national non-profit that exists “to make the right to education a reality for Afghan Women and girls”. Their work embodies the kind of sustainable, systemic change I believe in.
Launching a book is not for the faint of heart. It takes courage, perseverance, and a strong inner compass. But you can’t do it alone. You need your people—those willing to write reviews, purchase your book on launch day, share your message within their circles, and cheer you on when you need a boost.
If your book happens to make #1 in one or more categories, it is exhilarating. You check in every hour on launch day to see how your book is ranked, as Amazon does not save that information for you.
To keep the momentum going, it is essential to stay visible —through podcast interviews, speaking engagements, blog writing, and other opportunities that invite connection and conversation.
Thank you to all who supported me in launching” Truths & Contradictions”. With your support we made #1 Best Seller in Women Writers Social Sciences e-books and Hot New Release in Afghan History on Amazon.ca. We also ranked #1 New Release in Women Writers on Amazon.com.
I couldn’t have done it without you.
With heartfelt gratitude, Pam
